Staging Spamalot
I
n February Sibford pupils presented Monty Python’s ‘Spamalot’. For three nights ... plus a special preview matinee for local schools ... students took us on the hunt for the Holy Grail.
The comedy musical was
directed by Head of Drama Neil Madden, with musical direction by Head of Music, Fiona Hudson.
Neil said: “Fiona and myself
are very proud of the Spamalot cast. They have worked their socks off, giving up their evenings and weekends to put on, what has been a really professional production. “I am very grateful to our
parents too, as I know that evenings and weekends have been disrupted by our rehearsal schedule. As a busy parent myself I know how difficult the weekly juggling act can be, so a heartfelt thank you to all for allowing your children to fully commit to the show. “Spamalot is an out and out
comedy treat and a world away from last year’s production of Cabaret. I have been extremely impressed with how easily the pupils have entered into the world of Monty Python during rehearsals and it has

been a pleasure to see them capture the well known sketches from the Monty Python cannon.
“Fiona and I, along with
Penny Spring in the English Department, have now started preparing our next production which will be performed in November to commemorate the centenary of the end of WW1 ... so watch this space!” Sibford Head Toby Spence added: “Having discovered Monty Python in my student days I do love the humour and irreverence of this genre of comedy. “That said, it is a huge challenge to do justice to the outrageous minds of Cleese, Idle, Palin et al ... and the Sibford pupils really did step up to the plate. “The production I
experienced was just wonderful – brilliant humour, appropriate ‘naughtiness’, impeccable comic timing, an immersive set and bright and colourful costumes and music. “It was a true community
event with support from a huge number of pupils, staff and parents.”
