Top marks for Sibford pupils

Life in the fastlane

In February, Sixth Form Physics students had the opportunity to see behind the scenes at leading motorsport and advanced technology business, Prodrive. They learnt about the history of the company and its involvement with both Aston Martin racing and Subaru rally cars ... including seeing the car which set a new lap record of the Isle of Man TT circuit in 2016. Prodrive is committed to encouraging more young people into a career in engineering. A spokesperson for the company said: “Engineers are at the heart of not only our success and that of the British motorsport and technology industries but are also the bedrock behind the success of so many UK manufacturing companies. Here we look to show young people what engineering is all about; to enthuse them about the subject; and encourage them to choose courses that could ultimately enable them to pursue a career in the area.” Sibford science teacher James Elliott said: “Prodrive were excellent

throughout, they were very welcoming, and helped with any questions we had.”

Sibford School took in an unusual delivery in February with the arrival of two baby lambs. Three week old Tilly and Tiny have joined the school population as part of Sibford’s animal husbandry initiative. Pupils were able to bottle feed the lambs during their lunchtime

‘animal feeding’ activity club, where they also got the opportunity to find out more about their upkeep and development. Boarders, meanwhile, helped with weekend duties. Pictured: boarders Dori and Liliana with the lambs.

Students at Sibford School were celebrating in February after achieving a 100 per cent success rate in their acting and public speaking exams. A total of 23 pupils, from Year 5

up to Year 13, entered into LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) exams at the end of January, with 56% passing with distinctions and the rest achieving merits. Sibford Head Toby Spence said:

“This is an incredible achievement, especially as some of the older students were also juggling the exams with their rehearsals for our school production of ‘Spamalot’. Congratulations to all involved.” • Pictured above: Nine-year- old Imogen (the youngest pupil taking the exam) and 17-year-old Thomas (the eldest candidate).
