Masks raise cash for toilet twin

Members of the Junor School Council organised an Asian animals mask day and cake sale to raise money towards twinning a block of Sibford toilets with a block of toilets in Uganda. The event raised an amazing £88.83 which will go towards helping those in desperate poverty to have access to a proper latrine, clean water and the information they need to be healthy.

Working in a Quaker School Positively Mad!

Staff from Bootham School in York, Leighton Park in Reading and Ackworth School in Pontefract joined colleagues here at Sibford for the 2018 ‘Working in a Quaker School Conference.’ A biennial event which Quaker schools in the UK take it in turns to

host, the conference covered a number of areas including Quaker beliefs, methods and values; an introduction to Quaker business practice; and the use of silence in Quaker schools.

Emily from Positively Mad, one of the country’s leading providers of student workshops, visited Sibford in February to carry out two workshops. Students in Year 10 were taught

a range of study skills to help increase their rate of learning and their ability levels. Meanwhile, Year 11 students

enjoyed an ‘exam busters’ workshop, an interactive and multisensory learning experience showing them how to prepare for exams.

Delegates also took advantage of networking opportunities and hope

to build on these in the future to strengthen their Quaker roots. Conference organiser Zoë Simms, Head of RS and Quaker Overseer at

Sibford School said: “In these turbulent times within education we need to make space to learn more about and reflect upon our shared Quaker testimonies in order to engage with the young people in our care. The conference provided this opportunity and we valued the time we spent together and the lessons we learned will be shared within the Quaker school community.”

We are delighted to be sponsoring the opening event of the 2018 ChipLit festival … a talk by humanitarian and author Terry Waite. Terry will be discussing his latest book ‘Solitude: Memories, People, Places’. After enduring 1,763 days in captivity, Terry learned a great deal about solitude

Watching Macbeth Over the Easter holidays, a group of GCSE Drama students will be going to the Stratford-upon- Avon Picturehouse to watch a live screening of the RSC’s performance of Macbeth starring Christopher Ecclestone and Niamh Cusack.

What a waste As part of their studies on waste

management and recycling, all of Year 7 visited the Viridor Energy Recovery Facility at Ardley near Bicester during the last week of term.

Sibford sponsors Terry Waite talk at ChipLit Fest

and, since his release, has been drawn to investigate the power of solitude in the lives of others. The talk takes place on Thursday 26 April at Chipping Norton Theatre. Tickets cost £12 and are available from the box office. For details of
