Sibford celebrates 20 years of Rugby Sevens The 2018 Sibford Sevens
March saw the 20th annual Sibford School Rugby Sevens Tournament taking place.
Launched in 1999, the inaugural
Sibford Sevens was a one-day event restricted to boys playing in the under 12s category. A total of 16 teams from neighbouring schools competed for the trophy which was eventually won by Josca’s Preparatory School in Abingdon. Twenty years on, the Sibford
Sevens is now spread over five days and featured boys’ teams ranging from Under 12s through to Under 18s and girls’ teams ranging from Under 13s through to Under 16s. In total, over 100 teams from 36 schools took part. Sibford School PE teacher, Richard Ferley, said: “The Sibford Sevens Tournament has grown beyond all recognition from the original event back in 1999. Over the years, we have seen some outstanding play and 2018 was no exception.”
tournament kicked off on Tuesday 6 March with the Under 12s boys and concluded on Thursday 15 March with the girls taking to the field.
• Junior School pupils also got the chance to take to the rugby pitch when we hosted a Tag Rugby Festival in the last week of term for girls and boys in Years 3 – 6.
