Medal scoop for Emma
Congratulations to Year 7 pupil Emma who has performed exceptionally well in the County Swimming Championships this term.
She qualified for nine finals and Physics Factor 2018
On Wednesday 21 March, Sibford was delighted to host the annual inter-schools Physic Factor. Our own Year 8 students joined pupils from Shipston High, Chipping Campden School and Kineton High to give ‘busking demos’ which included making: unpoppable balloons; straws that suck all by themselves; lava lamps; and lemons that lift by magic! Special guest speakers were Derrick Willer, Schools Liaison officer from The Institution of Engineering and Technology (pictured above with Sibford pupils), and Rachel Edwards from
Warwick University. Derrick gave a short speech
encouraging pupils to take up engineering as a future career. Meanwhile, Rachel spoke about the work she is doing with magnets and even discussed how to make frogs levitate! Sibford Science teacher James Elliot said: “I would like to thank all those who helped to make the event such a success. We were especially pleased to welcome Derrick, whose services to Education were recognised in the 2018 New Year’s Honours when he was awarded an MBE.”
Ed is library finalist of the year
Sibford Sixth Form student Ed has been named as a finalist in the Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Awards 2018. Ed was one of just eight finalists selected from an impressive field of nominations from school librarians across the UK in the competition which was organised by the School Library Association and CILIP School Libraries Group. The prize-giving ceremony took place at Portcullis House, Westminster, where Ed was accompanied by mum Sandra and Sibford Librarian Frances King. As part of the competition, nominated contestants were asked to write a letter to the Prime Minister, Theresa May, explaining the importance and value of school libraries. Ed’s letter emphasised that knowledge is ‘not a privilege’ and that the right to learn through reading should be available to everyone. Following the prize-giving Ed and the other finalists took a trip to 10 Downing Street to hand in the letters.
