Sibford goes big for world book day! P

upils at Sibford School decided that to dedicate just 24 hours

to World Book Day was simply not enough! So instead they declared March 1 ~ 9 as World Book Week! Junior School pupils started off the proceedings by following the theme of the WBD Award… flying high with reading … and came to school dressed as literary characters who had taken to the skies. These included Winnie the Witch, Mary Poppins and various dragons. On Tuesday 6 March, we were

visited by children’s author Ross Montgomery. Ross, whose books include ‘The Building Boy’ and ‘Alex, the Dog and the Unopenable Door’, spoke to Junior pupils, those in Years 7 and 8 and pupils from visiting primary schools. He also ran creative writing workshops for pupils in Years 5 to 7. On Thursday 8 March, Junior pupils visited Jaffé & Neale in Chipping Norton to spend their WBD Tokens (the planned visit on WBD itself was postponed due to the bad weather). Members of PSFA, our parent

committee, held a lunchtime Book & Bake sale over two days to help raise funds for our new climbing wall.

And the week concluded on

Friday 9 March with Senior School pupils and staff coming to school wearing badges and carrying props to depict their favourite books. Pupils listened to stories narrated by surprise guests and also took part in a treasure hunt, tracking down the favourite books of staff.
