Students compete in regional maths finals
Water, waves ... and balloons!
A Level Geography students travelled to Leeson House Field Studies Centre near Swanage at the end of January. Located on a Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, the centre specialises in developing and teaching a wide range of fieldcourses. Students are pictured on Chesil Beach where
they undertook in-depth studies of sediment movement, beach profiles, wave types and sea level change. Meanwhile, GCSE Geographers have been
consolidating their knowledge of Global Atmospheric Circulation patterns and Polar, Hadley and Ferrel cells by making balloon models.
DofE students carry on regardless!
A group of 17 Sibford students travelled to Hampshire on Friday 16 March to spend the weekend camping in the New Forest as part of their practice Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition ... and what a memorable experience it was! The weekend coincided with the so called ‘mini-beast from the east’ hitting our shores and students woke up on Sunday morning to discover their campsite covered in snow. But, showing the true Sibford spirit of ‘living adventurously’, they carried on with the task in hand and all successfully completed their expedition challenges. They will return to the New Forest
for their assessment in June ... when they hope the weather will be kinder to them! Meanwhile, congratulations to old scholar Oliver Lorimer (pictured right)
who recently completed his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. He is due to collect his award from the Palace in May. • Don’t forget, it is now possible to recycle spent Nespresso capsules at Sibford via the recycling bin located by the hall. The scheme is part of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award volunteering section.

Four Sibford students visited the awe-inspiring Oxford University Maths Institute in March to compete in the regional finals of the UKMT Team Maths Challenge. Year 8 pupils, Freya and George,
and Year 9 pupils, Jude and Nounou, spent the day testing their Maths skills alongside budding mathematicians from across Oxfordshire. Maths teacher Harriet Meddows said: “The teamwork demonstrated by the Sibford students was wonderful to see. Their enthusiasm and support continued throughout the full day of rounds and they came away with a great sense of achievement and shared enjoyment.”
Exeat staycation Boarders enjoyed their second
Exeat Staycation in March. Instead of leaving school to
stay with guardians, many of our students remained on campus to enjoy a weekend of activities. On Saturday they went to the Thai Orchid restaurant in Banbury to enjoy lunch together. And on Sunday they discovered some of the fascinating Quaker heritage surrounding chocolate when they visited Cadbury World in Birmingham.
