he Isle of Skye is frequently, justly described as one of the most spectacular places on earth. Kinloch sits in one of the

more beautiful parts of the island: down a long drive, at the head of Loch Na Dal. Here you will find roaring fires, whisky on tap, sumptuous bedrooms with huge beds, epic views and some of Scotland’s best food.

The historic 16th century hunting lodge, built for the Clan Donald, was until recently home to Lord Godfrey the 64th Clan Chief and his wife, the cook and food writer, Lady Claire Macdonald. They raised their four children at Kinloch, while establishing it as the special place it is, and priding themselves on a home-from-home welcome. Today, their daughter Isabella has certainly inherited her parents natural charm and makes the most gracious host.

This relaxed Highland hospitality combines with delicious, seasonal food at Marcello Tully’s world-renown restaurant. Whether enjoying lunch, afternoon-tea or the seven-course tasting menu, food is the crowning part of the Kinloch experience, even the breakfasts are award-winning. Kinloch offers a selection of hands-on and unique cookery classes hosted by Marcello in the pro-kitchen. Fittingly, given its hunting lodge history, you can join their guide, walking, foraging, stalking deer or fly-fishing for wild brown trout. Whatever the sport, participants are immersed in Skye’s striking landscapes and abundant wildlife.

Of course, Kinloch is also somewhere to relax and recharge, escaping the noise and pace of modern life, where guests can take things at their own pace. It can be hard to leave.
