n the coast of East Lothian, overlooking Muirfield Golf Course and the Firth of Forth, lies Greywalls, a warm honey
coloured stone building designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901. Originally built as a private house, Greywalls was one of the first country house hotels in Britain. It retains all the luxuries of a top class hotel but with the relaxing atmosphere of a country house. The extensive walled gardens which provide herbs and salads for the house are attributed to the world renowned designer, Gertrude Jekyll.
Owned by the Weaver family and now managed by Inverlochy Castle Management International, Greywalls has enjoyed a reputation for the excellence of its food and service for more than half a century. In May 2010, Albert Roux OBE, KFO, owner of Le Gavroche, Britain’s first restaurant to be awarded three Michelin stars, opened his restaurant which serves French classical cuisine with a flair and lightness and using local produce as much as possible.
The style and comfort of this special building is best exemplified by the quiet luxury of the panelled library, a large peaceful book lined room complete with a warming log fire. The style is matched in the 23 bedrooms, many of which enjoy extensive views of Muirfield and the Firth of Forth. Each room is individually decorated and furnished with antiques and service throughout is discrete, friendly and professional. Greywalls and golf are synonymous. Within a 20 minute drive
there are a dozen spectacular golf courses. The house overlooks the ninth green and the tenth tee at Muirfield, one of the most famous golf courses in the world.
