RED ROOSTER FESTIVAL 31 MAY-02 JUNE
EUSTON HALL, SUFFOLK
Red Rooster has quickly established itself as one of the best festivals in the region and is frequently appearing in lists of best small festivals nationally. It’s back again early summer for a weekend of some of the very best in RnB, blues, Americana, soul, roots and country. Head south for this gem of a festival.
Set in the glorious grounds of Euston Hall just over the Norfolk- Suffolk border in 30-acres of land there is plenty of space and beauty to be found in this chilled out, dog and family-friendly, safe event. There are a couple of stages, the smaller Little Red Rooster stage next to the lake (or “Blues Swamp”) for the more acoustic, folk and country end of the Americana spectrum whilst the main stage is in the middle of a woodland area in a large marquee where the wilder stuff happens. There’s even a hidden dj and dance shack waiting to be discovered where the honky tonk goes on ‘til the early hours.
Plentiful food with a Southern flavour is available from the large number of vendors and dishes such as jambalayas can be eaten at outdoor tables or at one of the numerous campfires. Drinks are catered by Four Roses bourbon and the Meantime brewery with afew bars scattered around the site.
As for the music, the line-up so far is already lip-smacking with names such as Pokey LaFarge, blues preacher Daddy Long Legs (who had us all down on our knees testifying in The Crypt recently), Alabama 3, Yola Carter, Gill Landry, The Bonnevilles, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Worry Dolls, and a whole host of others including Norwich’s own Ida Mae, 4D Jones, & Lucy Grubb. WORDS: Richard Shashamane
