Norwich Gaming Festival returns to the Forum!

So what is the gaming festival? An event where gaming fans can enjoy a week of free gaming fun, no ticket required! Even if you are not a gaming fan give it a look.

Organised and run by Te Forum Trust, Norwich Gaming Festival celebrates the cultural, creative and educational aspects of the gaming industry. It’s for all ages, all levels of interest and expertise. Te Forum put on the event working with Norwich University of Arts (NUA) students, if that is not enough collaboration they also are working with UEA and Access To Games. It is a great opportunity for local, national and international talent to showcase their expertise in game development and programming.

Last year over 40,000 visitors attended, this year hopes are to be bigger and better than ever. Te jam-packed programme will include indie, mainstream and retro games, seminars, talks, workshops,

demos and shows.

So far, over 40 independent developers are set to showcase their games, giving you a chance to find out more. You may even be keen to get involved and showcase your own game and ideas, if so speak to the representatives for NUA or the Forum.

Festival Project Manager Richard Smith said: “Norwich Gaming Festival is unique because of its emphasis showcasing the amazing creations of independent developers and highlighting the amazing career and educational opportunities available. If you have a game that you want to showcase there’s no better opportunity or platform for thousands of people to play your game!”

Te Gaming Festival started life as a Retro Arcade in 2012, and if I remember correctly retro sweets were also on sale. Norwich University of the Arts have been involved since the festival’s inception. NUA students will showcase their work, give talks and exhibit games throughout the festival. Visitors will also be able to find out more about courses including BSc Games Development and BA Games Art and Design.

Visit Norwich Gaming Festival website norwichgamingfestival.com for details about getting involved, and for news about the 2018 programme.
