Garden Cottage Nursery at Kent College
Babies and toddlers are already attending Kent College’s new venture – Garden Cottage Nursery. Situated just fi ve minutes from the centre of Canterbury, in the idyllic grounds of Kent College Junior School in Harbledown, the nursery is located in the old lodge that used to form the gatehouse to the estate. With a bright conservatory
area used for messy and physical play, and bed mats for naps, the nursery also boasts a decorated nursery garden where these youngest pupils can sit on a comfy grass sofa or
enjoy playing with outdoor learning toys. Nursery Manager Zen Stedman works closely with Andy Carter, Head Master of Kent College Junior School, as well as the Reception and Early Years teachers. The nursery places an emphasis on personalised childcare, a child- centred approach and parental involvement and choice, and Zen works with the Head Chef at Kent College to create a healthy bespoke menu of fresh food suitable for the babies and toddlers.
The nursery accommodates up to 12 babies and toddlers at any one time, from six weeks old to three years. • For more information, contact

Keeping track
of local history Local history and rail enthusiasts, John Buss and John Reynolds, took Year 5 and 6 pupils at Barham School on a time travel train journey. Exploring the effects of the coming (and going) of the Elham Valley Railway, pupils learned about cuttings, embankments, the hard work of navvies and how telegrams could be faster than online shopping!
