GLASSHOUSE TASTING ROOM UNVEILED


Celebrations mark completion of Simpsons Wine Estate’s renovation, hotel on the shortlist for award, plus restaurant review, local food news and diary date

impsons Wine Estate held a celebratory gathering to mark the completion of the installation of their new Glasshouse Tasting Room at their winery in Barham. This


was the fi nal stage in the renovation project, which has seen the conversion of their two barns into a state-of-the-art winery, offi ce space and visitor attraction. Owners Ruth and Charles Simpson


commissioned Rap Interiors, a Kent-based Offi ce Design Agency, to undertake the works. “We know that wine tourism is a huge


growth area in the UK, so wanted to make sure we have a really special visitor experience for those interested in English wine,” said Ruth Simpson, adding: “We’ve found that people in the local area and further afi eld are fascinated that the UK can now produce very high-quality wines and we hope that our vineyard and winery tours, at this fantastic new facility,


will help visitors learn more about it.” Bespoke design features include a custom-built bar with an ocean ripple fi nish and integrated, self-cleaning spittoons, a luxurious seating area with velvet sofas and cocktail chairs, and a helter skelter slide, named The Fruit Shute, which transports guests down to the ground-fl oor winery. • For full details of vineyard and winery tours at Simpsons Wine Estate, visit www.simpsonswine.com


Local boutique hotel shortlisted for prestigious award


The Faversham Creek Hotel & Red Sails Restaurant is raising a glass after being shortlisted in the 2018 Luxury Lifestyle Magazine Readers’ Travel Awards for Best Hotel for Wine.


As one of just 11 hotels in the UK to be shortlisted for the prestigious accolade, the four star, 2 AA Rosette- winning restaurant, based in the historic town of Faversham, impressed the awards’ judging panel with its distinctive


selection of wines and for its unique relationships with some of the world’s fi nest winemakers, both in-house and in the Cellar Back Door Wine Club. Award winners are due to be revealed
