If you look up the word “house” in the dictionary, you may find this description — a building for human habitation, especially one that is lived in by a family or small group of people. Yet if you ask the WME girls living in Berhampur, India, you will likely receive a much different take on house.


In October 2013, Berhampur, India, was decimated by a tropical cyclone that affected over 13 million people. As the storm approached land, our National Director in India ordered the evacuation of the WME Children’s Home located in that city. Within minutes of this warning, more than 100 girls were moved inland to safety. Had they not been relocated, their lives surely would have been lost. We know this because the Children’s Home was destroyed.


For over 4 years, WME sponsors have faithfully been giving to rebuild what was lost during that tragic and devastating storm. We are excited to announce the new dormitory has finally been completed. The girls have now moved out of the large one-room facility where they have lived since 2013 and are back home. Although we still must rebuild and refurnish the
