Have you ever heard the phrase, “ONE MAN’S TRASH IS ANOTHER MAN’S TREASURE”? I often think of that saying while carefully looking for little treasures being sold at a yard sale or resale shop. But during my first World Missionary Evangelism mission trip to Nicaragua, I learned a whole other meaning to that catchy, little phrase.
The locals call it “El Puente”. From where I stood I could see beautiful mountains covered with lush, green vegetation. I could also see the old, colonial buildings of the city just a few miles away. It was almost postcard perfect. But immediately surrounding me was a totally different scene. You see, “El Puente” means “The Dump.” And yes, we were actually visiting the city’s garbage dump.
