COMMENT/IN THIS ISSUE INDUSTRY NEWS A Editorial comment
s it has long been a ‘must-attend’ event for this magazine, I was delighted to learn that the PRYSM Group, which has been organising B2B trade exhibitions for over 18 years, has assured the future of the UK’s leading recycling, energy, water and waste management trade show since acquiring it from As- cential plc. RWM 2018 will take place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, England, from 11-13 September, this year. The exhibition, which operates in partnership with the Chartered Insti- tution of Wastes Management (CIWM), has joined PRYSM’s Environmen- tal Division, which already includes The European Contamination Expo Series, Hazardous Waste Expo, Land Remediation Expo, The Flood Expo and The Marine & Coastal Civil Engineering Expo. Commenting on the acquisition, Event Director Nick Woore has praised RWM as the leading exhibition in the global resource management sector. He confirmed that waste, recycling and resource management is crucial to all of our lives and the significant contribution that this dynamic and in- novative sector can make to the economy is increasingly being recognised by governments and industry. Running this event, he added, is an honour we are not taking lightly and we will ensure that the exhibition leads the way for the industry tasked with delivering a sustainable future. Dr Colin Church, Chief Executive of CIWM, confirmed that it was an exciting development and stated that RWM and CIWM look forward to working in partnership with PRYSM to ensure that the show goes from strength to strength as the premiere showcase for the resources and waste management sector.
He welcomed PRYSM’s decision to invest in expanding its environmental business and pointed out that there are clear synergies with other events in the Group’s stable that will further broaden RWM’s reach and relevance. The show takes place at the NEC in September each year and at- tracts over 500 exhibitors and 10,000 visitors from the UK and overseas, including representatives from retail, leisure, construction and demolition, manufacturing, local authority and government organisations. It seeks to build a community for a resource-efficient future by connecting innova- tors and influencers with businesses, public sector bodies, governments and other institutions to deliver solutions that are both environmentally sound and profitable.
