Maria Cano Palamós, Spain

Communication, Marketing & Promotion I am very pleased and honoured to continue being part of the Board of Directors of MedCruise, a unique association offering significant tools to promote the cruise ports and their destinations within the cruise industry. A unique association that empowers and brings opportunities to small ports and small local economies, such us the port I am representing. A unique association that gives a platform to remain united, whether a big or small port, wherever you are coming from, the East or the West Med, the Black Sea or Red Sea, if located at the Aegean or the Adriatic Sea or if you are part of a Sea or an Ocean like the Atlantic. During this term, I’ll be enthusiastically ready to work hard in the Marketing, Promotion and Communication task in full cooperation with our President, our Board of Directors and our esteemed members with the inestimable support of the great Secretariat in order to bring new fresh ideas and the maintenance of the high standards my predecessors left in that task.

Projects & Studies In this period of momentous change in the cruise industry, characterised by the advent of ultra-large vessels and the first fully LNG-powered cruise ships, the role of MedCruise has become increasingly crucial in providing members with the opportunity to share the invaluable experience and know- how acquired directly on site. With this aim, the Project and Studies mandate which has been assigned to me, is a key sector from which we can analyse the present situation, implement an action plan and develop best practice guidelines for today’s challenges of sustainability. I look forward to working closely with all our members.

Partnerships/Events MedCruise is a crucial element in the way we do business. We all know how challenging and indeed difficult it can be at times to ensure that we aim for growth. It is comforting to have MedCruise holding our hand on many issues. As Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Tourist Board I know only too well how important it is for destinations to support our work. I’m delighted to have been given the task by the President to develop the area of Partnerships and Events and will be doing my utmost to ensure that we progress in this field.

Sustainability/Environmental Issues The environmental issue is a focus very important for MedCruise. Creating sustainable green ports is a common responsibility, there are several major stakeholders involved in Green Port development our work will be to create a team and together contribute to making our ports a “greener” place. My work will be supported by studies, projects of all green stakeholders and transferred to all members. I’ll work to share with all members our experiences and to create best practices in order to increase the activity of our ports in an environmentally sustainable manner.
