Rijeka is a new rapidly emerging jewel in the crown for cruises to Croatia. The port stands at the crossroads between the three most developed tourist regions - Istria to the west, Dalmatia to the South and fairly-tale Gorski kotar to the North. It is a friendly city that shares the same blends of culture and has attractions to fit all interests, like beaches, shopping, entertainments, religious venues, sports and museums showcasing its rich history. It is also very modern with plenty of free wi-fi facilities in the city centre. In March 2016, the City of Rijeka was declared as the one of two European Capitals of Culture for 2020. The European Capital of Culture action is an initiative of the European Union which aims at highlighting this richness and diversity as well as common cultural aspects in Europe with a view to contributing to bring the peoples of Europe closer together and improve mutual understanding. The initiative also fosters the contribution of culture to the long-term development of cities in accordance with their respective strategies and priorities. Rijeka won this prestigious title with the programme Port of Diversity, which aims to create a city of culture and creativity for Europe and the future. Various activities

that will be performed in the port, it will raise the level of touristic offer for cruising tourists. Ideally located in the northern Adriatic, the city of Rijeka offers it all - fascinating history, a pleasant, walkable waterfront, majestic architecture, plus art galleries, great wine, food, ambience, culture and enticing shopping. Beautifully situated close to the photogenic coastal towns of Istria and Opatija, the Pearl of the Adriatic, Rijeka has an abundance of nature sites including breathtaking Krk Island, known for olive oil, wine and honey, and scenic Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with lakes, caves and waterfalls. Not forgetting Gorski Kotar, a lush expanse of lakes, national parks, hills and mountains offering superb sights and activities. Rijeka is also the nearest gateway to the two southeast European capitals – Zagreb (Croatian) and Ljubljana (Slovenian). Rijeka can easily be added into current Mediterranean itineraries, offering an attractive and competitive port package. It is a port full of varied and exciting tours, but is also ideal for the independent guest and crew member, thus providing an excellent overall guest satisfaction for your full ship.
