By Aidan W. Finn CD County of Waterford,
Ireland’s
Boxing Day Hunt at Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland Lake Tour Stables are
annual Saint
Stephen’s Day (Boxing Day) Hunt went off as planned. With a Guarda (po- lice) escort through the an- cient Viking town of Tramore. This Irish Tradi- tional ride is sponsored and organized by John and Carmel Flavin of Lake Tour Stables of Tramore.. The annual Hunt,
which starts from down- town Tramore, is a Drag Event, where a chemically-
infused rag is dragged by lead riders across the coun- tryside, ahead of a pack of hounds as if chasing a fox. I had the pleasure of
watching at least 100 riders from local stables and clubs participate along with the Hunt lead riders and a pack of very friendly hounds. The riders ranged from children to seniors who all had a fun ride.
The event got under-
way around noon with driz- zle and wet roads but the ride horses were sure footed.
located in one of the most picturesque areas of South- ern Ireland. The stable is lo- cated
a mile from
Ballyscanion and Carriga- vantry Lakes, about 1 mile from Tramore. The stable offers daily rides to Tramore Beach on the shore of the Irish Sea. You can also do a 15
rider 11 day horse tour. For more information contact John
or Carmel at
www.laketourstables.com . Just remember they don’t have any western gear.

From Our Founder
Remembering February/
March 1984 Our front cover was a photo by
Harold Campton of Jim Warner rid- ing Canadian Bred Lady Bandjam- mer turning a barrel at Quarterama. It turns out Jim and Lady competed at the North American Livestock Exhibition in Louisville where they
won the prestigious Maturity Barrel Race.
Quarterama ’84 had a show
date set for March 6-11. The show was scheduled at the Toronto Exhi- bition Place and boasted a purse of $200,000. Gary Ormerod was the show Chairman, Sue Nye was the show secretary.
The demise of Quarterama in
1999 led to many winter replace- ment shows. Most did not make it, others turned to running demonstra- tion and seminar type events with lots of booths promoting all kinds of horsey stuff.
The OQHA was promoting “A
Day with Tommy Manion on May 13.
The Ontario Rodeo Associa-
tion were promoting a Rough Stock School on May 19 -21.

The Burlington-Alder-
shot Lions Club International Horse Show had two full pages in The Rider. They were getting a head start on their June show. Smart thinking!
Patti Carter had just re-
turned from showing Quarter Horses in Trevigito, Italy.
The WHAO were pro-
moting six clinics in Show Management on April 14. The

moting his annual Easter Reg- istered Horse Auction on April 23 at the Stouffville Sales Arena.
MY TURN It seems that we are stuck
with one of Trump’s FAKE American businesses. I bought a jar of “Pure Strawberry Jam” from a well known company. It turned to out to be Fake. They are passing off a jar of coloured pectin as PURE Strawberry jam. I never found one strawberry in the jar.
The Quarter Horse Racing As-
sociation of Ontario were promot- ing their races with a purse of $250,000 and the Rags to Riches Futurity of $75,000.
Carter’s Training of St.
George, Ontario were promoting Call Me Three, an AQHA Grand Champion Stallion. The horse was owned by Don Lobsinger.
The Roping Association
of Ontario were promoting their Spring School at Humber College on March 3-4.
It seems that every horse
organization were doing some- thing. It was a very busy time.
The Canadian Western
Agribition in Regina was a plus venue for horses from Lakeland College’s Cutting Horse’s. Trina Lena took sec- ond place in the Quarter Horse Cutting competition.
Obituary Ian Wright
Ian Wright W R I G H T , Robert “Ian” - died on his 69th birthday on Jan- uary 4, 2018. He has left children, Stephanie (Joel Thompson) and Callum Wright ( C a r y n McGi l v r a y ) , their mother Marguerite “Peggy” McCarthy, and his brother David (Colleen Crossen) and count- less friends, of which he would include many dogs and horses, for a lively day at the races. Ian was pipe major for the Cobourg Legion Pipe Band, a past president of the Port Hope & District Agricultural Society, and a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. Born in Port Hope, he lived in Toronto, Alberta, New Zealand, Australia, and Northern England. An avid reader, es- pecially of military history, a horseman, and a Tiger Cats fan, Ian’s interests were diverse and his conversation will be greatly missed. His send off will be on Friday, January 19, from 4-9pm at the Oasis. Donations can be made in Ian’s memory to the Port Hope & District Agricultural Society Fair (P.O. Box 283, Port Hope L1A3W4) and in person to niece Kim Rogers who is walking in Ian’s name at IDIDALAPFORCANCER.
OEF was on hand to provide assistance to help shows. The WHAO were pro-
moting the Extravangaza ‘84 weekend at the Paris Fair grounds. The show was sched- uled for June 22-24. Back in the day shows and seminars were promoting long before the event. I guess they wanted everyone to know in advance so they could plan ahead. Not like today when they promote too late and then wonder why the event is not successful. It’s a shame things have changed.
ber when politicians and nose talking news readers used the “in” verbiage as in “at this point in time”. This churned my stomach. Then we had to go through “LIKE” and now the optimum word is “LOOK”. Give me a break. Holy Pelosi Batman.
Mr. T is doing his best to
destroy NAFTA. My company, Orange aPEEL, has been buy- ing product from Florida at the rate of $10,000 every six weeks for the past twenty years. I have found a supplier in Brazil that works well for me. To hell with Mr. T and his childishness. I am OK. Canada can get just about anything made in USA from other trad- ing partners. Why do we need Boeing to make our military aircraft. We built the CF 100 All Weather Fighter and the Avro Arrow we can do it again, only better.
Thanks for looking down in this corner.
