2018-19 Quarter Horse Program Approved
The 2018-19 Quarter Horse Racing In-
dustry Development Program (QHRIDP) has been approved by Ontario Racing. The 2018-19 QHRIDP was planned based on the recommendations of the Quarter Horse Ad- visory Group. The main QHRIDP components will re-
main similar to prior years, with the 2018-19 program projected to provide over $3.5 mil- lion in total purses and incentives. New to the QHRIDP, a Mare Breeding
Incentive will be introduced to encourage breeding of QH mares in Ontario. The goal of the new program is to increase the future racing population by providing a $1,000 in- centive to eligible participants upon breeding a mare. To accommodate the budget expen-
ditures for the Mare Breeding Incentive, the Breeders Awards and Stallion Awards were cut by 10% to $400k and $40k, respectively. The Third Start Bonus, which provides
a $1,000 incentive to the trainer of record on the completion of three starts at Ajax Downs during the season, will be continued into 2018-19. The incentive will introduce a max- imum cap of $10,000 to any one trainer. To support increased program participa-
tion, late enrolments will now be allowed subject to a late fee. The fee for filing a late Stallion Enrolment (after January 15 for ac- tive stallions) will be $200. Broodmare en- rolments may be filed after foaling, with no time limit, upon paying a late fee of $200 and providing proof of residency.

Mare Breeding Incentive Program For 2018, a Mare Breeding Incentive Program is being intro-
duced to the Quarter Horse Racing Industry Development Program (QHRIDP) to encourage the breeding of QH mares and increase the future racing population. An incentive of $1,000 will be paid to the owner of the mare
at time of breeding upon application and provision of proof that the mare is in foal 60 days or more post-breeding. To be eligible, mares must have been previously enrolled in
the QHRIDP, or have raced at Ajax Downs in the past 2 years. The owner and the mare must be enrolled in the Program for 2018. This change will be included in the 2018 Criteria Book. A Mare Breeding Incentive Application form is available on Ontario
