EYP field trip
These were presented to students and staff to be implemented this school year. One of their initiatives is to install hand-dryers in the bathrooms to reduce paper waste. They were awarded a £500 grant from Round Square in an Environmental Competition, which will pay for these. Students will continue to be encouraged to use reusable cutlery and containers, especially for hot lunch, and double-sided printing will be the default on school printers.
EYP students took a field trip to Tucker’s Goat Farm to bring the letter “G” to life! They got to meet (and cuddle!) the baby goats, and learn how Mr Tucker makes goat cheese.
inspired that they held a bake sale to raise funds for them. The family also talked to Primary students about the environment, which inspired a group of Year 4 students to set up a lunchtime club to pick up trash and keep BHS clean.
Seven staff and student teams and two BHS family teams took part in the You Go Girl Relay in May. Congratulations to Fiona Lines, her sister, alumna Zoe Roberts ’97, and daughter Camryn Lines ‘25 who won first in the family team division.
Kaitlyn Burnard ‘24 had an exciting weekend at the Bermuda Dressage Group’s second “On the Road Show” at Inwood Stables and Spicelands Riding Centre. Kaitlyn won Most Improved Equestrian from Inwood and will have a private lesson with international rider and FEI judge, Mercedes Campdera, as her prize.
Secondary students were awarded the top prize in a video competition hosted by the Ministry of Economic Development, Department of ICT Policy & Innovation to recognise ‘International Girls in ICT Day’. Year 7 students, Za’Nyah Khan, Gabriella Quinn-Sirera, Sydney DaPonte, and Year 8 students, Kirsty Sanchez, Lara Backeberg, Salayah Stange and Katarina Rance created a 90-second video about women in ICT in Bermuda and how ICT can empower women.
The BHS EcoClub conducted a trash audit and came up with suggestions on how the School can reduce its waste footprint.

Year 7s learn about ocean conservation
On May 18th, BHS revealed the new school mascot, Torch the Dragon, to coincide with the publishing of the BHS edition of the National School Salute magazine in the Royal Gazette. Last year, students, alumni and staff were invited to submit proposals for a school mascot, and the dragon was selected, after a school-wide vote. The new mascot was inspired by the Torch Ceremony, and the flame which is passed on from generation to generation of BHS students. Not to mention, Torch is fearless and fierce – just like our students!
Year 8 students had the opportunity to put what they have learned about combustion in Chemistry into a real life situation, when they visited the Hamilton Fire Station. They were the largest school group the Station had ever received, and the firemen were impressed with the girls’ knowledge about the fire triangle,
