School Reports APRIL
Over the Easter break, 28 Year 6 students travelled to Washington D.C. with Mrs Renaud, Mrs Chlebek, Mrs Hillen and Miss Cordeiro. The girls visited historical monuments and memorials and Smithsonian museums, and explored Jamestown and Williamsburg to learn more about the early settlers and their important connection to Bermuda.
Megan Sutcliffe ’17 was awarded the Academic Achievement Award in the Outstanding Teen Awards 2017. Sixteen BHS students were nominated for awards across the categories.
Skye Oliveira ‘21 was top female and Ava Adams ‘23 was second place female in the Bermuda Opti Championship.
IB2 art students held their first ever public exhibition at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art from April 19th-25th. The talented students showcased
a variety IB2 art exhibition of works
including painting, mixed-media, video installations, sculpture and drawings; all part of their IB examination portfolio.
In April, 16 Secondary students took part in a conversation co-hosted by Glenn Fubler and Caitlyn Conyers to recognise the UNESCO day of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Students worked in small groups to discuss, define and present their understanding of words such as discrimination, racism, stereotypes,

prejudice and multi-culturalism. Students were encouraged to identify solutions
for the issues
highlighted through the discussions. These solutions included education, conversation, immersion and self- awareness about one’s own prejudices.
BHS students took part in the Carifta Games in April in Nassau, Bahamas with Gabby Alfaro-Pitman ‘21 and Taylor White ‘22 competing in swimming. Taylor placed 2nd in the 200M and 100M backstroke, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the relays. Gabby achieved personal bests in two of her three events. In athletics, Brianna Mendes ’17 placed 5th in the 3,000m race, recording her 2nd best time ever.
The talented BHS equestrians were out in full force for the Ag Show, winning many ribbons and
trophies. Other students entered
artwork, baked goods, plants and animals - with too many prizes to mention, but we are proud of the BHS support of this community event.
MAY
Students had the unique opportunity to meet the Schwoevers, a family who is dedicated to studying and protecting the environment by sailing around the world, collecting data and educating communities. Year 7 students toured their boat Top to Top to learn how this family has dedicated their lives to the environment and the pursuit of scientific research. The students were so
