UPFRONT» Management Seize This Year

Take the next few weeks to develop yourself, and your mind, and to be your best in 2018

BY PAULA COMFORT D

ecember is always a good month for self-development. However, it must start with your mental state.

We work in an industry where we

take care of members, clients and team members each and every day. To do this effectively, we need to take care of ourselves first–and it all begins with the mind. Enough about Eat, Move and Sleep and every other self-help book on the shelves. No one can have any level of success if they don’t have their men- tal game on. The upcoming year is going to move

even faster than last year, so you need to be ready. To seize the year you will need to take time out to reflect on what is truly important to you. The new year will hold companies

and people to the highest standards. Values will matter.

16 Fitness Business Canada January/February 2018 Here are some questions to help

you reflect back on 2017 and to think ahead to create your personal and pro- fessional blueprint for 2018.

Professional goal: Don’t fall into the trap of complacency 1. What am I most proud of in my career for 2017?

2. What am I least proud of in my career for 2017?

3. What changes do I need to make to step up my game in 2018?

4. Where would I like to be in 2020? 5. What do I need to do in 2018 to move the needle closer to this goal?

6. What support or coaching do I need to get me there? Who can help me?

Personal goal: Take care of yourself first 1. What tools can I use to get my mind in the game?

2. What do I need more of and/or less of to bolster my mental strength?

3. What can I do physically to be at my best?

4. What is my fitness goal for 2018? Let 2018 not be just about setting

goals and accomplishing them. Be more deliberate with how you spend your time and how you manage your own health, which will allow you to best help others. Here’s to a mindful 2018!
