What are the main benefits of losing weight?


If you are overweight, losing weight will help reduce your chances of developing problems such as:

Losing weight can also help improve the quality of your sleep, improve your mood, ease joint pain and benefit the balance of hormones in your body. According to the NHS you can get health


benefits from losing even a small amount of your weight if you keep it off.

Your Pharmacist and their team can advise you about various different options


that can help you lose weight. Ask us about healthy eating, meal replacement products and slimming aids available. We will always tailor our advice specifically to your needs. We can offer advice about ways to increase your physical activity levels too.


How important is exercise when you’re trying to lose weight?


Regular exercise helps to burn calories, and you need to burn more calories than


you consume if you want to lose weight. So if you eat more healthily, reduce the number of calories you consume and increase your exercise, this further benefits your health. Regular exercise can also improve your health by reducing your risk of several health problems such as heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and depression

Colin’s top exercise tips


Our Pharmacists have loads of advice to offer if you need help and support with losing weight. Here, Colin explains a few simple ways to make physical activity part of your everyday life:


1. Walk more. Try to walk a bit more during the day, go for a lunchtime walk or an evening stroll. A brisk walk is a great way to burn calories. Get a step counter (pedometer) and see how many steps you can do in a day, then gradually try to increase the total.


2. Take the stairs. Rather than going for the easy option of using a lift, take the stairs for added health benefits.


3. Choose a form of exercise you enjoy doing. If you don't enjoy it, it will be hard to keep going. Also try exercising with friends, so you can encourage each other.
