UK women affected by

contraception cutbacks Cutbacks to contraceptive services means many women are struggling to access contraception, says FPA, the sexual health charity. The charity’s survey discovered almost a fifth of women have to wait more than two weeks for a contraception appointment, with a quarter saying they felt there wasn’t enough time to discuss all their options during their consultation. The survey also found a quarter of women have never had

a consultation with a healthcare professional to talk specifically about their contraceptive needs. LloydsPharmacy has a confidential Sexual Health Service

that offers advice about contraception online. Visit LloydsPharmacy.comfor more details.

Healthier in 2018

Just over one in five people make New Year resolutions and health resolutions are the most common says a survey by YouGov.

• Women are more likely to make resolutions than men (24 percent vs 17 percent)

• Younger people are more likely to make resolutions than older people (33 percent of 18 - 24-year-olds compared with 16 percent of those aged 50+)

It’s too early to say how many of us will stick to our resolutions this year, but if 2016 is anything to go by it could be as many as 48 percent of us, YouGov claims.

Are you getting enough sleep? The average British person gets just six-and-a-half hours sleep a night, says the Sleep Council, with more than one in 10 sleeping for less than five hours a night. Four out of five people also complain about disturbed or inadequate sleep, Sleep Council experts suggest. There’s no magic number for how much each individual

should get. But seven to eight hours is thought to be best (according to the Sleep Council, most adults need somewhere between six and nine hours to feel refreshed and to function well both mentally and physically). If you’re falling short in the sleep department, your local

Pharmacist can give you plenty of tips to help you get more shut-eye.

What to eat to beat joint pain If you have rheumatoid arthritis, you’ll know only too well that it causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. But researchers writing in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition claim eating certain foods may make your life easier. Foods highlighted as reducing the progression and

symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include dried plums, blueberries, pomegranates, whole grains, ginger, turmeric and certain oils and teas. For help with any condition that causes pain, ask your

Pharmacist about the free Pain Management Service available at your local LloydsPharmacy.
