Better sleep: our
Pharmacist’s top tips Want to get a better night’s sleep? Here are some tips from Pharmacist Anshu Bhimbat:
• Stick to a schedule of the same bedtime and wake-up time every day, including at weekends
• Sleep on a comfortable bed, mattress and pillow
• Maintain a cool room temperature with minimal noise and light
• Exercise daily, but not before bedtime
• Avoid large meals before bedtime and caffeinated drinks in the evening time
If you’re still on course with your New Year’s resolutions, well done. But even if you’ve had one or more slip-ups, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get back on track. The key to keeping resolutions is to go for goals you can keep – and that means being realistic. So if you’ve had difficulty with one of your goals, try making it more achievable. Also try not to change more than one behaviour at a time. Just work on one thing until you’re happy, then move onto the next. In the meantime try not to beat yourself up if you have the odd
moment of weakness. Nobody is perfect. So if you’ve given in to temptation, remember – we all have our ups and downs. Just start again tomorrow, as it’s as good a day as any to work on being healthier.
Test yourself One way of keeping your motivation strong is to keep a check on your progress. And that’s something we can help with. We have several services at LloydsPharmacy that could give your motivation a boost, as they provide evidence of how your efforts are making a difference.
Blood Pressure Testing As you get fitter, lose weight or stay smoke free, your blood pressure should become healthier. Why not ask your Pharmacist about our free Blood Pressure Check today, then have regular checks to keep an eye on how your new healthy habits are affecting it?
Cholesterol and Heart Check Service Similarly your cholesterol should improve as you become healthier. Our Cholesterol & Heart Check Service can also identify how likely you are to develop heart disease in the next 10 years – the healthier you become, the lower your risk should be.
Type 2 Diabetes Test This quick, easy and free test is for people aged 16 and older who may be at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Eating more healthily, being more physically active and losing weight – if you need to – can all reduce your risk of developing the disease. If, by taking this test, you can see your risk level reducing as you become healthier, it’s a great way of boosting your determination to stick at your healthy goals.
