A Loose Leaf Education HAMPTON MANOR’S TEA OF CHOICE FOR THE TEA AFICIONADO

As much as us Brits love a good brew,

would give up an Oxford education in the pursuit of the perfect cuppa! But for Jameel Lalani

London offices importing and selling tea from artisan growers that he has carefully hand selected.

The philosophy of Lalani has many parallels with our thinking on natural wine and speciality coffee at Hampton Manor.

There is an emphasis on the grower and their

garden or “terroir” for the wine buffs. Whilst tea is grown and farmed commercially on a massive scale, there are many small, family run, tea gardens that have carved out spots that are exceptional

quality. Lalani don’t mess with the main ingredient. You won’t find any infusions or herbs obscuring the delicacy and complexity of the teas they bring to you. There is an appealing purity and commitment to the main ingredient that resonates with the ethos we bring to the food and

few of us it was an

obvious choice to walk away from his Biochemistry undergraduate degree at 23 and trot the globe on the hunt for exceptional tea.

Today Jameel works from his

wine served at our table. The care taken in growing tea needs to be met with the same care when it comes to serving it. Some teas are so delicate that they are best brewed and served at much lower temperatures than we are used to.

The correct

weight of tea and water, and the time it takes to brew are essential.

At the Manor we’ll start your Afternoon Tea with a good old pot of tea as you know it! Some of us love the comfort that comes from the way Grandma’s always made it and rest assured we’ll deliver! Then, as the afternoon unfolds, we want to appeal to your sense of adventure. We’ll bring over the Lalani tea trolley and share a tea tasting opportunity that will take you off the beaten track and open up your mind to a whole new world of tea.

Afternoon Tea at Hampton Manor is served at 3pm Tues- Sat. Booking Essential (the house is now only open for reservations and appointments), Quote LIVE to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine paired to one of the afternoon’s courses. www.hamptonmanor.com Reservations 01675 446080
