F ROM X - FACTOR TO HEART THROB

To begin with I was nervous, because I wanted to please my label, but it all happened so naturally and organically. It just happened...

The title Trouble, is that something you’re always in or expecting? [laughing] Why Trouble? I called the album Trouble because towards the end of my relationship I felt I was stuck, I knew it was going to end, but I was in denial and afraid. I suppose I got myself in a bit of a rut.

Let’s talk bodyshamers (shame on them); I loved your reaction and tweet the following morning! You killed it returning back to the X-Factor stage; you’re riding high on the success of ‘Sucker for You’ and your debut album and then some idiots want to talk weight!? Have you got to grips with life in the spotlight and how to handle everything that comes at you, as that was a very cool response? Yeah! As far as bodyshamers… well I feel there is nothing wrong with my body. I’ve never had that response before. I’m a built guy. I love being broad and I feel great! Nowadays everyone likes to find a negative, so I’m putting it down to the song being so great they couldn’t fault it, so they had to try and find something else to be negative about!!! Love it – here here – you look fabulous to me!

Matt, what inspired the new single, The Thing About Love, which you co-wrote? It’s based on how I felt after my break-up previous the show. I feel like it’s honest and relatable.

Are you enjoying writing as well as performing, it must feel good to have a vested interest in what you’re singing? I love writing and performing, it’s the best feeling singing songs you can really relate to, especially if you’ve written them yourself!

You must be so thrilled with how your debut album has gone down! Were you nervous about revealing it, as there’s pressure on any performer when releasing a debut album, but when you’ve had all eyes on you for the X-Factor, is there that added pressure to show why you deserved to win? I feel excited and positive about the album coming out; I can’t wait for my fans to hear it. I hope they connect with it and love the sound. I guess there is pressure, but nowadays there’s always pressure no matter what you do!

How did you find the whole process of putting the album together?
