ADVERTORIAL

mclernons go live with medi marshal

McLernons are pleased to announce that their Medi Marshal patient App is now available to our community pharmacy customers and their patients.

What is Medi Marshal? medi marshal is a brand new way that your patients can manage their medicines, strengthening their loyalty to your pharmacy.

The medi marshal app has been designed and developed by mclernons to empower the patient, allowing them to order their prescriptions, particularly repeats, and – importantly – visibility of the dispensing records held by their pharmacist.

Recognising that the patient should be at the centre of their own health care journey, and not simply an adjunct to the work of the health care professional, the medi marshal app puts the patient firmly at the heart of their relationship with their community pharmacist.

How it works The medi marshal app has been proven to work in conjunction with the mclernons mPS dispensary management system (with the potential to make this available to users of other dispensary solutions).

The patient can enrol with more than one pharmacy as we know that for reasons of convenience or emergency patients may get different pharmacy items from different pharmacies. These may all be part of the same group, or located in different areas (near the workplace, beside the family home, near a family member for whom someone is a carer, etc).

Once the registration process has been completed in the pharmacy, the patient is given a unique code to unlock the medi marshal app. They may use the app for themselves or for another individual who has given them permission to do so, such as an elderly family member, or it they are a professional carer.

The app allows ‘real time’ access to their dispensing records, something that has not been done before in Ireland. Such accurate, up-to- date access has many benefits, not just for the patient but also for other healthcare professionals, such as those in an A&E department or when a patient requires advice on medicines when away from home and their usual community pharmacist.

here, the patient is responsible for ordering their own repeat medications when required, and the app allows them to pre-order these. The request is automatically logged into the mclernons mPS dispensing system in the pharmacy, allowing them to manage their work flow more efficiently and ensure that the medicines are ready for collection at the time indicated by the patient.

By allowing the pharmacist to structure the work of the dispensary team, they are then able to spend more time with the patient, discussing any medication issues

and delivering high quality pharmaceutical care.

The benefits The immediate benefit of the medi marshal app is that it creates a channel of communication between the patient and the community pharmacy, giving them access to their dispensing history

and control over their ordering of repeat prescriptions.

Once this method of communication is established it can be used for other applications, such as the extension of the mclernons’ e-prescribing solution which was successfully demonstrated in mallow, Co Cork, earlier this year.

Using the app, the patient can scan the barcode on their prescription and send this directly to the pharmacy for preparation, together with a time and date for collection of the completed prescription items.

Previously in our e-prescribing solution the prescription could only be scanned in the pharmacy. Using the app, and self-scanning the barcode on the prescription, the patient is fully empowered and placed in control of the management of their prescription.

Other services can be bolted on, such as a medicines compliance module (or pill reminder, synched to the calendar on the patient’s phone), specific information on the medication or the condition for which the medication has been prescribed.

The app has been developed by mclernons with the same high quality intuitive software and attention to detail, and delivers the following benefits to your pharmacy:

• Patients can re-order repeats from their phones

• Improved workflow in the pharmacy • Decreased pharmacy queues • more efficient use of staff resources • Two-way notifications from pharmacy to patient

• No need for expense of SmS messages

• messages can be seen in patient record

• Pharmacy map locator

How do your patients get the Medi Marshal app? Patient enrolment is quick and simple, and our Customer Services staff, trainers and engineers are happy to help you encourage your patients to download the app.

we also have produced in-store help guides for your staff to assist them when a patient downloads the medi marshal app for the first time.

A barcode will be generated by your mPS system – simply select the patient and the medi marshal icon. Print out the barcode on a dispensing label and attach to the Patient Registration App leaflet, which has full details on how to instal the App.

The patient then downloads the app following the steps which are detailed on the leaflet provided.

They then scan the barcode or enter the authorisation code given by your pharmacy, and select ‘Continue’. when they have completed all these steps they will receive an email requesting them to activate the app. Clicking on ‘activate’ will bring up the completion screen, and only then can they access medi marshal.

The medi marshal App can be downloaded from the App Store and the supplementary advertising and enrolment material can be ordered on line by pharmacists at http://medimarshal.quickorder.uk.com
