Welcome to the November issue
In November we remember those who have sacrificed so much for us. The Royal British Legion Remembrance Parade is on Sunday 12th November – look out locally for timings. Also see page 28 for details of a Remembrance concert.
As we move deeper into Autumn, lots of our advertisers and community groups are starting to talk about Christmas. The Beacon Association (pg6) is organising a Grand Christmas Quiz and Children’s Christmas Party in December; and Chestnut Nursery (just outside Poole Park) will be hosting carols on Saturday 2nd December (pg34) to celebrate the arrival of their Christmas trees!
There can be an increase in isolation and loneliness in our community at this time of year – particularly as the days become shorter and darker. Maybe take the time to check on your neighbours and friends a little more often. Perhaps someone you know might be interested in the upcoming Monday Lunch Club at The Grove (pg10) or might enjoy the Random Roamers senior trips planned for the new year (pg27)?
The darker evenings also provide cover for unwanted visitors. There has been an increase in vandalism and anti-social behaviour (pg10) and residents are encouraged to report anything they see. All are welcome at the next ‘Partners and Communities Together’ meeting at Upton Community Centre on 15th November (pg8). This is where the police and town councillors get together with members of the public to discuss issues that are causing them concern.
