Upton In Bloom SSE In Bloom Judging Results 2017
Each year, judges appear ‘from on high’ to assess our performance against a wide-ranging set of criteria. These include the fl oral displays, litter, and involvement of local businesses, our work with young people, management of the town’s facilities, eco-awareness, publicity and plans for the future.
This year under the Upton in Bloom banner, the following were awarded:
• An overall Silver Gilt Award again this year.
• Silver for the Town Centre, fl oral displays and Cemetery.
• Silver Gilt for Upton Woods – conservation area and the town overall.
At this point we were somewhat disappointed with the fi rst three categories. But those members present at the ceremony held at Copthorne Hotel Effi ngham, were almost catapulted from their seats, when these were announced below:
• Lytchett Bay View – conservation area – Gold – Best in Class
• South Lytchett Bay Manor Camping and Caravan Park – Gold – Best in Class
• Tappers Woodland Burial Site – Gold
• Slough Lane Allotments Upton – Allotments of the year for SSE in Bloom! (wow)
Community Champion of the year was Ray Griffi n – a very well deserved award for a very dedicated and hardworking champion of Upton in Bloom. The committee wish to publicly thank Ray for all his enthusiasm and commitment to the team.

Poetry Competition
As in previous years, we will be holding our annual poetry competition in conjunction with Yarrells, Upton Infants and Upton Juniors. All children aged 5-11 years attending these schools are asked to write a poem on A4 paper about trees. The reading of the best selected poems will take place on 15th November (venue to be confi rmed).
