£10,000 Lottery Funding for The Grove

We are delighted to report that The Grove community building located at the Recreation Ground will soon play host to the ‘Monday Lunch Club’ – which is a day centre for the elderly of the community. A fantastic service which sees the clients collected from their homes and taken to the venue, where they spend the day chatting, playing cards and generally having a really good time. In addition, they receive morning coffee, a home cooked roast lunch with dessert, and then tea and cake before they leave.

The Town Clerk was invited to witness fi rst hand how the club operates and to meet the clients: “I pay credit to the dedicated team of volunteers who provide this vital service to the elderly of our town. I enjoyed meeting the clients and was able to speak to them about their experiences of living in our town – some of them for many years. The feedback that I received from the clients was that their greatest problem in life was loneliness – thank goodness for the Day Centre!”

The Town Council and the Day Centre established a Task Force a number of months ago to plan and prepare for their move from their current premises in Lytchett Matravers to The Grove. It is pleasing to report that a successful Lottery Bid submitted by the Town Council has resulted in a £10,000 kitchen enhancement. Additionally, the Day Centre has undertaken their own fundraising, with some monies coming from the clients themselves, and will provide all the appliances. These upgrades will not only benefi t the Monday Lunch Club, but also other people hiring the facility.

The Grove building has recently played host to several children’s parties. With rates starting at £10 per hour, why not consider hiring it for your event?

New Councillor

The Town Council is pleased to welcome new councillor Mr Ryan Holloway, serving on Amenities and Environment. A local person with community and the wellbeing of the town and its residents high on his agenda.

Vandalism/Anti-Social Behaviour

Unfortunately this continues to increase around the town and causes the Town Council much extra work and expense. Please, if you witness this type of behaviour, let Dorset Police know. We also ask people to be vigilant in and around Upton Cemetery due to the recent distressing incidents of a large amount of fl y tipping inside the Cemetery.
