Local Dementia Initiatives Dear Friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to update you with some key community initiatives that will be happening this month in Corfe Mullen.
The fi rst of these initiatives is the launch of Dementia Walks in Partnership with Health Walks East Dorset District Council, of whom I would like to thank for their support. Activity is important for those people with dementia, so we are keen to engage with people who have been newly diagnosed as well as people who have had dementia for some time. These walks will be led by qualifi ed, trained people and will provide an opportunity to reduce loneliness and isolation – two key themes identifi ed by carers. Please look out for further information about dates and times of these in Corfe Mullen library and local shops.
On the 4th Friday of the month at the Village Hall, we will be introducing carpet bowls for anyone who is interested, including those with dementia and carers. This will begin on Friday 22nd September and will take place from 2-4.30pm. This activity is to promote fun and support in the community and is open to all. Come and join us for an enjoyable afternoon alongside some gentle exercise. Refreshments will be provided free of charge.
On Friday 29th September at 11am, Michael Tomlinson MP will be opening the Corfe Mullen Wellbeing Centre at the Chapel in the Valley Baptist Church. There will be a number of activities around the community that the Wellbeing Centre will be delivering and supporting. The primary focus will be mental health and wellbeing. There will be pastoral support and counselling for those who need it as well as monthly surgeries and drop-ins if you just need to talk to somebody (which we are hoping will include the local PCSO and other professionals). We are also looking to develop mentoring and peer support across the community.
On this date, we will also be launching the growing Compassionate Community vision and agenda at the same time – please come along to fi nd out more. There will be refreshments available too!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support over the last few years and to those people who stop me in the street or local shops, thank you for your encouragement.
Let’s continue to journey together to grow a compassionate inclusive community.
Go well,
Peter Jones RMN MA FRSA Pioneer Minister
