column Support on the Spot joins Solent 250 sponsors

Welcome to a regular Solent 250 column, bringing together news about our annual campaign and the companies in our 250 listing

Support on the Spot is a new sponsor of our Solent 250. The firm, based at Portsmouth Technopole, provides computer support and services and has a long-standing client base. As a ‘one-stop- shop’ for IT-related requirements, the company looks forward to introducing its services to companies on the list, and meeting people at the next Solent 250 event.

BOFA International, number 197 on the Solent 250, is targeting global growth with a new appointment. The Poole-based world leader in industrial process fume and dust extraction technology has appointed Haydn Knight as director of sales and marketing.

Knight said: “BOFA is a great example of British manufacturing success as evidenced by our recent Queen’s Award for Innovation – and we are now perfectly positioned to continue expanding the reach of our technologies into new markets, across the world.”

Home Grown Hotels – which runs the highly successful Pig hotels – has won a prestigious international award for the Pig at Coombe, which opened last year. It is a winner in the Conde Nast Traveler HOT LIST 2017 awards. Home Grown is at number 221 in our list.

Langmead Farms, which has been farming in West Sussex since 1881, and is at 169 in our list, serves customers across four continents. One of its businesses, Langmead Herbs, has posted 50% annual growth and puts that down to its investment in people. Staff numbers are up 15% after a recruitment campaign and retention rates are high, with 57% of the 60-strong workforce having service longer than three years, and 20% longer than five years – impressive figures for the food industry.

Based in Andover and formed in 1961, Merityre operates 24 branches across the south. It is one of the most successful tyre and fast-fit retailers in the Home Counties, and is at number 135 in our list. Last year, ended June 30 2016, was ‘challenging’ with pre-tax profit down from £535k in 2015 to £448.4k.

Business THE TM MAGAZINE HWB appoints two new directors

She also has significant experience working with charities, independent schools, academies and other not-for- profit organisations, where HWB has a strong client base. She will be working with businesses across Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset in her new role.

“Working with business owners is really rewarding – it’s about working hand-in-hand with them, developing their growth plans, constructively challenging decisions, identifying opportunities and managing the risks.”

Brown said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed as a director and I’m looking forward to helping with the firm’s strategy for growth.

“I have acted for firms of

solicitors across the region for a number of years, building up a detailed knowledge of their requirements, and I have found this role to be very rewarding.”

Geoff Rhodes, managing director at HWB, said: “Michaela’s and Gary’s appointments for us are significant as they reflect our commitment to continue working closely with owner-

managed businesses in the region and grow our client base where we have specialist knowledge.”
