Editor’s Letter

Summer is here and, thus far, the weather has been kind.

If one is allowed to make

summer resolutions, in the style of those routinely broken in the new year, I’ve promised myself to go and support my local cricket team, Leeds and Broomfield, in the coming months.

The first team now boasts a couple of ex-county names, so the standard is high and, with those short boundaries, quite entertaining.

There is also a thriving girls’ game too and it is so gratifying to see the sport popular across all the ages and genders.

Mid Kent Living is once again packed with great features which I hope you’ll enjoy.

In this edition, we meet Kent’s new High Sheriff George Jessel who speaks candidly about his days in the Army, his love for all things rural and some interesting observations on Brexit.

And we are allowed into the world of culinary super-sisters Lesley and Nicole Parry, who have abandoned their international wanderings to open the Curious Eatery in Boughton Monchelsea.

We also tip our hats to the Harrow pubs at Ulcombe and Stockbury, which are now both going concerns with a distinct community feel. We wish those ventures every success.

The gardens at Hole Park, near Cranbrook, have been open to the public for many decades, but their popularity has sometimes been under-stated. The Barham family, who throw open their doors in a limited way each year, are fiercely proud of their achievement and rightly so.

Marian Boyd tells us how she retired from life as a barrister to take up open water swimming. Her account is quite inspiring.

There is a great deal more besides. All the best.
