Regular readers of this column will know that Chestnut Nursery sells a fantastic variety of plants and has team members with a wealth of skills and experience to share with customers, but you may not know so much about Chestnut Nursery the charity and the work we do.

Chestnut Nursery has been running for 16 years as a horticultural nursery that provides volunteer work opportunities for adults with severe and enduring mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The nursery is a very friendly place that uses horticulture to boost self- esteem, social skills and horticultural knowledge in a pressure-free environment. There is no fee to attend the nursery and volunteers can stay as long as they feel that it is of benefi t to them.

Due to the costs involved with running such a

project, plant sales alone do not cover all of the expenses, which is why events such as our Open Day on Saturday 15th July are so important. As well as being a fun day out

with homemade cakes and cream teas for sale, prizes to win, demonstrations and special offers on selected plants, it is also an opportunity for Chestnut Nursery to raise much needed funds and spread awareness about the charity and the work we do.

As a small, local charity we rely on the support of our community – so please do put the date in your diary

and visit us on 15th July to fi nd out more.

Jennie Gardner Assistant Manager

Chestnut Nursery provides meaningful work for adults with enduring mental illness through the therapy of horticulture. Open 7 days a week, at Kingland Road, Poole (adjacent to Poole Park).
