County Councillor Update Dear Residents,

It seems a long time since I last communicated, I am sorry, the rules of political ‘purdah’ meant that I could not publish until after the Election.

First I would like a to say a huge thank you to all who helped me at the local elections in May and voted to allow me to continue as the County Councillor for Corfe Mullen. I won resoundingly, which shows that people do appreciate all the hard work we put in and the way we also keep them in touch with local issues. It is a huge privilege to be able to continue for another term.

May 4th was a long night, I was allowed a morning to put my feet up and it was back to work in the afternoon as usual! I spent it with the Dorset Wildlife Trust and Baroness Parminter, looking at all the progress DWT has made in the new nature reserve at Corfe Barrow. There are now good paths through the woods, and lots of clearing has taken place, allowing more light into the woods giving an immediate increase in lovely fl owers. Do go along and explore yourselves one day soon.

A General Election then took place in June, but the result has not clarifi ed Britain’s position and opinions at all, and we will all need to ‘wait and see’.

On the local front, the Community Youth Club fi nally opened after the Easter holidays and the young people streamed back, we regularly have 50-60 young people attending and having a lot of fun, a testament to our loyal youth staff and an illustration of how much a Youth Club is valued in Corfe Mullen. A lively group entered the Carnival procession and we are back to stay!

Matt Crabb, who had joined us as a part time youth worker in January, was offered a full time job at Bournemouth University in June, so we encouraged him to accept – we are not yet able to employ a full time youth assistant, so we couldn’t compete! We would all like to thank him for his help and enthusiasm in getting us going and wish him every success in the future.

With best wishes for a lovely summer,
