District Councillor Report
It is some time since you have received a district councillor update, which was due to purdah being in place, fi rstly for the County Elections and then for the General Election.
Since the last report, my fellow Corfe Mullen District Councillor, Derek Burt, has been elected to the position of Chairman of East Dorset District Council. I wish him well in this post, which he will hold for the municipal year 2017/18.
At the annual meeting of the District Council, in addition to the positions I already held, (namely Vice-Chairman of the Ethical Governance committee and member of the Scrutiny & Policy Development committee), I have been appointed to the Joint Audit Committee – as the name suggests, a committee with members from both East Dorset District Council and our partners from Christchurch Borough Council.
With the long Summer days and evenings now with us, and the school Summer holiday fast approaching, why not pick up a copy of the Sports & Activities Guide 2017 and get ideas for lots of opportunities for you and your friends and family to get active in the great outdoors, across Christchurch and East Dorset?
Many District and
County councillors also serve their communities on their local Parish or Town councils. As one such councillor, I was honoured at
the recent Parish council annual meeting to be proposed, seconded and selected by my peers to be Chairman of the Parish Council for the municipal year 2017/18.
It was in this capacity that I attended this year’s Corfe Mullen Carnival – seeing the event from a different angle to which I’ve been accustomed, as a member of the Carnival committee. (I am pictured above speaking with one of the charity stallholders during the dignitary walkabout on Carnival Day, with Michael Tomlinson MP). I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, as I’m sure many of you did. On behalf of residents, I say well done to all those involved in organising the event.
