Feast of classical music through ages T
he Orchestra of St John in Bromsgrove is staging its sixth annual MusicFest – a feast of clas-
sical music through the ages, featuring four performances over two days. The chamber-sized symphony orchestra, directed by renowned cellist Richard Jenkinson, gives high-quality perform- ances in the wonderful acoustic of Bromsgrove’s St John’s Church to great critical acclaim. The 2017 MusicFest once again forms
part of the Bromsgrove Festival, and the final Gala Concert of the weekend will also bring the Festival to a rousing close! The four performances are as follows: Saturday July 22 at 3pm: “Bite-Sized
Classics 2” hosted by BBC presenter Michael Collie: The perfect introduction to classical music for young and old – a one-hour journey through some great classical music, featuring opportunities for younger audience members to take part, if they dare! Free entry by ticket

THE BARNT Green & Cofton Hackett Bake-Off and Afternoon Tea takes place on August 6 at St Andrew’s Church, Barnt Green, 1.30–4.30pm. Categories: Best Traditional Cake (Victoria Sponge, Carrot Cake, Lemon Drizzle); Best No-Bake Cake; Best Decorated Cake; Best Brownies; Best Cupcake; Under 11 (any cake or cup- cakes); Age 12-17 (any cake or cupcakes). DODFORD CHILDREN’S Holiday Farm hosts a Family Fun Day on Sat July 15, 12noon–4.30pm. Have a look around, feed the animals, play in the playbarn. There will also be a dance display, BBQ, cream teas, bottle tombola, raffle and lots more! Adults £1, children free.
ST LEONARD’S Church in Beoley has its Summer Fête on Sat July 1, from 1.30– 4.30pm. Popular singer Stephen Cesari will open the fête, while local schools will entertain the crowds. More music is pro- vided by the Worcestershire Players. Usual mix of stalls from tombola to coconut shy, plant stall to White Elephant. Face paint- ing, bouncy castle, BBQ and cake sale. A FUN Run in support of refugees takes place at Sanders Park, Bromsgrove on Sat July 15. The Gimme Shelter 3k Fun Run starts at 9am, and you can run, jog or walk! £8 entry for adults/£4 for under-18s. Live music, goody bag for all participants and lots more. ‘Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcome Refugees’ is a voluntary com- munity group helping refugees locally, in camps in Northern Europe and beyond.
