The Spiritual Meaning of the Seven Major Chakras by Karen Foote

Connecting with the chakras is one ofmy favorite parts of prac-

ticing Spiritual Intuitive Healing work. Reiki Healing allows for quietness and the ability to tune into the subtleties of the physical and energy body. One time while working on my wheelchair bound mother, I decided to check out her chakras as a sort of experiment. To my amazement, I saw them! When I looked in and connected to her root chakra (red, at the base) it was bouncing in a triangular type motion. I hardly knew anything about the chakras other than their locations and colors, but I KNEWwhat I was seeing was abnormal. That experience spurred my in-depth involvement to better under- stand the chakras. The Root Chakra has to do with getting grounded, having rou-

tines, making time for exercise, and connecting with the earth. You often hear to hug a tree or get your bare feet in the grass and connect with Mother Earth as a way to get grounded. My poor mom’s feet hadn’t been barefoot on the Earth since 2002! She’s in shoes and a brace if she’s on her feet. It made sense that her root was all funky. However, there are other ways to ground, such as the food we eat and meditations to connect to the Earth energetically. The next chakra after the root is the Sacral Chakra. This orange

chakra is all about relationships, creativity and fun. So many of us adults forget to make time for fun! Carving time out of our busy schedules to prioritize creative outlets and fun is so important. Honest and open communication within our relationships is also essential. When we value the relationships we are in and it’s recip- rocated our sacral chakras will be healthy and strong. Combining fun and creative time with said relationships is even better! Our Solar Plexus is in the diaphragmic region and is yellow.

This chakra reflects our self esteemand our power. If we spread our- selves too thin and are worn out, it will be obvious in the Solar Plexus. It’s important to love and respect ourselves, to not be criti- cal or harsh but accepting and forgiving of who we are. Our self- esteem and self-worth affect how others perceive us. We need to know that we matter and are worthy. We can practice affirmations to help nurture and bolster ourselves. Self-Love, Forgiveness and Compassion rule the Heart Chakra,

which is represented by both green and pink.We have room in our heart for all types of love. We can hold resentment and anger here too if we aren’t careful. It’s important to deal with our emotions and not ignore them. If we are having a hard time forgiving ourselves or if we don’t love ourselves, things in our lives and our relationships will suffer.Make sure you love and forgive yourself always. You are worthy of your own love! It does no good to hold resentments and anger toward others- ask to release it and let it go.

Next up is the Throat Chakra. This chakra

is blue and rules communication. Oftentimes this area shows how we can suppress and hold our tongues, not speaking our truth or it also shows how we can rage and be sharp with our words. Boundaries also come up with this chakra. It is important to express ourselves clearly and in a healthy way! Journaling, speaking up when neces- sary, and screaming (when themoment calls for it) all can help sup- port this chakra. Our Third Eye chakra rules our intuition. This chakra is typi-

cally seen as an indigo color, although sometimes it is shown as purple, too. It’s our connection to our inner guidance. Do you fol- low the gentle whispers of your intuition? Do you trust your gut? It’s important to let our intuition guide us—to not always let reason and intellect take hold of your actions. Trust that inner voice. Your intuition is always kind and gentle, it’s those reminder nudges we get.Make sure you pay attention to it and FOLLOWwhere it wants to lead! Sometimes it can “make no sense” but you just KNOW when it is right. Give your third eye the opportunity to contribute in your daily activities and decisions. Finally, the Crown Chakra is up at the top of your head. It is

our connection to divinity, our spirituality—whatever that means for you. It is seen as either purple or white. This is where we con- nect to the Spiritual Realm. The most common message I get from the crown chakra is to ask for help from the other side. They are always there to help, but we need to request their involvement. Speak to your spirit team, your angels or crossed over loved ones. They are right there ready and waiting to assist you. They hear you when you talk to them (in your head or out loud!) and they love helping you out. All of the chakras are equally important, none are better than

another. They all play a powerful role in creating a harmonious you. There are somany different ways to help support and balance them- diet, essential oils, yoga, meditation, Reiki healing, sound therapy, color therapy or crystals. All are powerful tools to help create and restore balance to your chakras. Ideally, we will clear out the dys- function in our energy field before it takes hold in our bodies. The energy is always communicating to us, it’s just a matter of us tak- ing the time out to listen to the clues.
