Name: Rachael Howourth Company: Momentum South West Job Title: Owner and Founder

Tell us a bit about yourself? I’m a mum to three year old Oliver, a wife to James and a very proud business owner. I spent 16 years with Auto Trader as a Sales Director, leaving them in January 2016, responsible for £96m annually, 57 staff and double digit year on year growth. I’m a passionate, enthusiastic and a bit of a socialite. I love going to the gym but often ruin it by enjoying a nice glass of wine afterwards. But life is for living.

TOP TIPS FOR MAKING THE MOST OF EXHIBITING AT DEVON BUSINESS SHOW

• Your stand is a window to your business. Imagine yourself as a customer visiting your company for the first time.

• Branding – is it clear “who you are” and “what you have” to offer? Does your stand, stand out? Think about how you can make it eye catching and appealing to visitors.

• Bring business cards, flyers, leaflets and product samples for potential customers pick up and take away. If you have carrier bags bring them, they advertise your company. Many visitors may not be prepared to make decisions on the day itself, so ensure they have enough information to take away to act as a reminder.

• Maximise your customer database by gathering important data such as names, addresses, email addresses, contact numbers. One way to do this is to have competition entry forms for people to complete while at the show. Let us know in advance and we will Tweet! This will help to increase footfall to your stand as well. Please ensure you cover relevant data protection clauses.

• Offer an “Exhibition Exclusive Offer” to encourage customers to purchase on the day. Bring a float, an order book, note pad, pens, and a calculator. Use the show to encourage visitors to your premises afterwards by giving them a voucher to use.

• Try to make sure your stand is attended at all times, you don’t want to miss that all important customer. Keep your stand tidy, make eye contact with your potential customers and greet them. They may be at the show for the whole day and they tend to have a good walk around to check out all the exhibits first before making purchases.

• Don’t forget to network with fellow exhibitors and find out what they do, these are like-minded businesses and as well as offering to refer customers, who knows what these conversations could lead to!

• Lastly…….have fun!!
