Year is reviewed at annual meeting

THE annual meeting of resi- dents of Boxley parish took place at Beechen Hall, Walder- slade, before the parish council meeting on May 8. Parish chairman Bob Hinder reported on the work of the council during 2016/17, outlin- ing the efforts it had made to support its community. He highlighted the sterling work of the environment committee, chaired by Cllr Wendy Hinder, in representing the parish coun-

cil at two major public in- quiries. These were the Local Plan where strong representa- tions were made on behalf of parishioners to protect the Lids- ing and Capstone areas and also objections for the development of Gibraltar Farm with 450 houses. Unfortunately the plan- ning inspectors did not support these views. Along with grants to local or- ganisations, the parish council had taken the “extremely pro-

Keeping dogs under control

COMPLAINTS have been re- ceived about dogs being out of con- trol inWalderslade Woods. The area is popular with chil-

dren, families and dogwalkers and reports are being received of peo- plewalking up to five dogs and al- lowing them off their leads. The parish council will be putting

up posters reminding dog owners that it is illegal, and owners will be held responsible, if their dog is out of their control. Out of control is defined as: in-

juring someone, making someone fear they might be injured; attack- ing someone’s animal or causing

the owner of an animal to think they could be injured if they tried to stop your dog attacking their an- imal. Parish clerk Pauline Bowdery

said: “There is also the issue of dog fouling. Dog owners are required to pick up their dog’s waste and if you are trying to manage five ani- mals I’m pretty certain you are not cleaning up after your dogs.” It has been suggested that some-

one is running a dog-walking busi- ness and whilst the parish council is not against this, it considers not being in control of dogs as anti-so- cial and potentially dangerous.

active stance” of placing £40,000 in next year’s budget to pay for highway improvements and a further £15,000 for additional maintenance. The meeting also received re-

ports from the following local organisations: Dove Hill Allot- ments; Friends of Boxley War- ren; Sandling Village Hall; Vinters Valley Trust; Walder- slade Woodlands Group; Weavering Village Hall; Grove Green Community Centre.
