OVERSEAS SHOW VICENZAORO

Jewellery Focus Visits Vicenzaoro

One of the major fixtures in the European jewellery calendar, Vicenzaoro was a treasure trove of quality pieces and a well-executed event, finds MICHAEL NORTHCOTT

ast month was the first time I have had the pleasure of visiting Vicenzaoro, invited as part of the official press corps that the organisers hosted with the support of the Italian Trade Agency. The exhibition featured collections from over 1,500 brands hailing from 36 different countries, with visitors, journalists and business delegates attending from 120 countries.

L The show has come quite a way in its 60-year

history, and is now run under the control of the newly formed Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), and is a must- visit for any UK jeweller keen to see what is happening in less obvious corners of the world market. A spectacle of quality and attention to detail, the show was organised into ‘zones’ that the organisers say were designed to maximise the flow of people, and to make sense of the traditional ‘wandering’ process that exhibitions normally involve. Dividing the halls into six ‘communities’, called Icon, Look, Creation, Expression, Essence and Evolution, with a

floorplan reminiscent of any European metro-system, was a clever piece of organisation. It evoked a feeling of using an algorithm to create efficiency and make sure every visitor stands a chance of taking in a good portion of what was on offer.

THE DESIGN ROOM

Of particualr interest was The Design Room, an exclusive area inside the ‘Icon’ district in Hall 7, dedicated to “experimentation in contemporary jewellery”. Some of the designs here were among the most fascinating and stunning I have seen in my years as a jewellery journalist. In fact, throughout Hall 7, the calibre of jewellery on show was very high indeed - if you are a British jeweller looking for ways to stand out, or interesting one-off lines to excite your customers, this hall really was worth a stroll (photos shown are of Hall 7).

In the words of the organisers: “12 designers from around the world exhibited their creations
