Marcela Arizpuro Director of Transportation and Food Services | Amphitheater School District | Tucson, Arizona

Nothing short of phenomenal is the talk around town when discussing Director of Transportation and Food Service Marcela Arizpuro. In short time, Arizpuro has exemplified excellence by assuming an unfamiliar role as transportation director for Amphitheater School District. She takes and values time with each team member and explores the preferences they voice for improving operations. “We all have to work together and if these drivers and mechanics do not like the product they are working on, they won’t be passionate about representing it.” She said. Passion is progress for Arizpuro. She is currently working in conjunction with Clean Cities Tucson Manager Colleen Crowninshield on a grant that’s centered on transitioning the district bus fleet from biodiesel fuel to propane. Arizpuro is also assisting Crowninshield on a campaign to encourage school officials, school bus drivers and students to to reduce vehicle idling.

Lorre Erickson Safety Coordinator | Fitchburg Public Schools/First Student | Massachusetts

Safety leadership is life with Lorre Erickson as safety coordinator for Fitchburg Public Schools and contractor First Student. Her passion derives from a love of training and building skill sets in newly licensed school bus drivers. Improve- ment is constant for Erickson as she continues mentoring and refining development even for veteran drivers. Transportation operations throughout Fitchburg County entrust her with any questions or concerns. Donna Hildereth, transportation coordi- nator, emphasized that Erickson always has the answer and, if not, she can point staff in the right direction to solve the issue. Erickson is well versed in student management techniques, safe driving skills and safety enhancement training after a road incident or collision. She pays close attention to bus evacuations and kindergarten bus instruction to assist schools in student management. With her expertise in various fields of training, Erickson has assembled a team of trainers that are also safety conscious both on and off the road. Aside from mentoring and training as safety coordinator, Erickson is also an avid state school bus roadeo competitor and judge. She’s even created an annual “Road-E-o” at the local level in Fitchburg County.
