Cathy's Curiosity Corner in Benijofar helps the less fortunate
All year round Cathy does her upmost to help the community that we live in, by being a collection point for Reach Out Torrevieja and for the Children's Home in Elche.
Her own office within the shop is often overrun with donations of unwanted items and dried unperishable food that the public have dropped in to pass on to these very worthy causes.
Obviously as Christmas is nearing the call for help becomes even more valuable. I'm sure we all have items of clothing that we have not worn for over 6 months cluttering up the limited space in our homes. So next time you are having a clear out give a thought to the homeless people that live in our area, bag up your old clothes and drop them into Cathy.
When you are doing your weekly food shopping, why not add a bag of rice or pasta to your trolley to donate…. all these little things really do make a difference.
Cathy's favourite time of the year is Christmas and she really goes out of her way to make it special for all the children with Santa making his presence at her store in previous years. Unfortunately due to regulations in Spain it is not yet known if Santa will make it past the authorities this year but if he does it will be announced loud and clear. This will not stop Cathy appealing to the public to help make this Christmas as spectacular as possible for the children of Elche Orphanage. As well as the obvious donations of toys and clothing for children, the home are always in desperate need for toiletries and sanitary products. Having to buy these for several children of different ages on a regular basis can end up being a costly exercise. And one of the best gifts we can give these children is gift vouchers from one of the stores in La Zenia Boulevard or Habaneras, even a voucher for as small amount of €5. The home will put all the vouchers together and split them between the children so they can go and buy their own clothes, a privilege we often take for granted.
So let's pull together as a community and make it the best Christmas ever, and whilst at Cathy's Curiosity Corner handing over your donations, take some biscuits with you and you will definitely be invited to stay for coffee and make a friend for life in Cathy.
The store can be found in Benijofar at the side street of the Citroen garage and is open from Monday to Friday from around 10am until 4pm or you can call Cathy on 622 899 906.
