INNOVATIONS & USING NEW TECHNOLOGY

A FIRST: BULK TANKER-SUPPLIED OFFSHORE ANTI-WASHOUT GROUT

A high strength anti-washout grout ideal for marine and offshore use is now available in a bulk tank-based delivery system from UK specialist materials manufacturer Parex.

PRESENTLY IN USE

Parex 100 Newton Grout AW has already been used for transition grouting on more than 70 wind turbine foundations for E.ON’s Humber Gateway Wind Farm project over the last two years with positive results.

The material uses the well-proven Parex 100 Newton Grout formula with strong anti- washout additives which makes it possible to place the material in wet and water-filled voids without suffering washout of the cement binder.

SUPPLY

Storage and delivery to site in sealed tanks designed for the marine environment can be controlled so that there is always sufficient material waiting on the port side for rapid turnaround of the supply vessels. This removes the need for warehouse storage at port side and provides significant advantages over conventional delivery options such as bulk bags, which have to be stored for return to shore.

PROTECTED TRANSPORTATION Transportation in ISO tanks mounted within a steel frame for securing to a ship’s deck provides significant advantages. The method eliminates the risk of contamination by rain or sea water, improves cleanliness, removes the need for crane movements on deck and provides dust-free operation at the point of use.

It also ensures security of supplies in transit, improved health and safety for grouters, reduced material usage by cutting wastage and more rapid placement in areas where access is often time-limited. Grouting rates when compared to conventional pan mixing plant methods is significantly increased, with up to 20m³ per hour achievable.

Parex 100 Newton Grout AW can be placed using large continuous mixer pumps and typically provides an initial set in around 220 minutes, high early strength gain and a final compressive strength in excess of 100 N/mm² at 28 days.

PROVEN PRODUCT

The grout has been widely used onshore for many years in major construction and civils projects ranging from Heathrow Airport T2 multi-storey car park to Custom House Station on Crossrail London.

Explains Simon Rickett, Parex Regional Technical Sales Manager: “Our 100 Newton Grout has been a cornerstone of our portfolio for several years. With the addition of special anti-washout capabilities we can see a broad number of marine and offshore applications where it is ideal for annulus grouting of transition pieces for rapid wind turbine installation or collar strengthening projects on oil rigs.

“The silo option increases its attraction substantially, providing a great number of advantages and the route to quicker, efficient and cost-effective grouting.”

GLOBAL PRESENCE Simon concluded: “Because Parex has a global presence we can economically manufacture and deliver 100 Newton Grout to virtually any onshore or offshore location in the world.”
