OLD TOWN.TEMECULA Take a happy stroll through Old Town Temecula during the
16th Annual Temecula Outdoor Quilt Show, Saturday, October 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Produced by the Valley of the Mist Quilters, and sponsored by the City of Temecula, hundreds of colorful, handcrafted quilts will hang from eaves, balconies, and banis- ters during the show. Quilting may be an American tradition handed down from
mother to granddaughter, but today's contemporary and tra- ditional quilts are fashioned with state of the art equipment, computerized sewing machines, and hundreds of dollars of unique fabrics. 3-D designs, complicated stitching, appliqué and embroidery are all part of the "new" quilt generation. Old Town Temecula's Outdoor Quilt Show draws specta-
tors and quilt buyers from Southern California. Quilts on ex- hibit are produced by the Valley of the Mist Quilters, a 24-year-old, non-profit organization. Quilters will find a variety of supplies, fabrics and patterns
at the quilt vendor exhibit in the Temecula Civic Center at 41000 Main Street. Scissors and knife sharpening (for a fee) included in this area. The challenge quilt exhibit at Villa di' Calabro, represents
the quilt artists' interpretation of a theme. The challenge rules state the elements that must be incorporated into the quilt, but not specific fabrics or designs. A small quilt silent auction from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. near
Cafe Daniels/Antique Faire at 28601 Old Town Front Street gives visitors a chance to pick up a small piece of the artistry. These quilts are often used for wall hangings, table runners, special gifts and framed art pieces.
Karen Brow, quilter and fabric designer of JavaHouse-
Quilts.com, is the featured quilter and will be on exhibit at the "Merc" in front of the Old Town Temecula Community Theater. Brow designs patterns that incorporate animals with move- ment, humor and charm, while blending traditional color and style with innovation. The theater courtyard, located at 42051 Main Street, will
host a live auction at 1 p.m. as well as opportunity drawing following the auction. The auction proceeds will benefit local charities. For in-
formation visit their website at
www.valleyofthe
mistquilters.com or call (951) 312-4927, or (951) 694-6480. Volunteers are welcome and needed to help hang the quilts before the event.
