OCTOBER 2014

GREEK FESTIVAL BIGGER, BETTER THAN EVER

After a record event last year, the Greek Festival has announced plans for a big-

ger and better food, fun and musical celebration than ever before! As a tribute to last year’s outstanding success, the City of Temecula, for the first

time, has agreed to co-sponsor this year’s culinary extravaganza. It will be held Sat- urday and Sunday, October 25 and 26, at the Civic Center in Old Town. City and Festival officials agree with the fans: it is the ideal venue for this Festival. Attendees will welcome the changes that have been implemented for this year’s

event: Earlier start times for both Saturday (10 a.m., instead of 11 a.m. last year) and Sunday (11 a.m. instead of Noon). The hungry crowds last year stood in line even while tents were being set up and food was being prepared. The Festival closes at 9 p.m. Saturday, and 8 p.m. Sunday. There will be more shade for those waiting in line. To reduce waiting time, there will be more service windows to take orders and more food on hand. There will more

tables with umbrellas for seating people at one time and a greatly enhanced chil- dren’s area for the kids to frolic, such as ‘face painting, pony rides, petting zoo and the excitable extreme game trailer’. Live Greek folk dancing and the special instruments that go with them are once again featured. Of course, none of this is what

draws the crowds. It’s the deliciously unique tingling of the taste buds when they savor the ethnic lures: gyros, pastitso, mousaka, lamb, lemon chicken, pork souvlaki, rice pilaf, Greek salad, spanakopita (spinach pie with feta cheese), tiropita, dolmades, not to men- tion the wide variety of ever popular baklava, koulourakia, kourambiedes, and all their sweet relatives. They will try harder not to run out of food before the end of the festivities. WARNING! If you are a Festival

fan, you should know this is the last Greek Festival of the season in Southern California. It’s now or never, guys!
