local art scene, the First Wednesday Art Walk is just the ticket. “It’s great for families because it ties you into your community,” says Liz Grebe, marketing and events coordinator for Downtown Vision Inc. “It’s good to know the Picassos of the world but it’s also good to stay local and know your local artists.” Tis

free, monthly event showcases local artists at more than 40 venues in the heart of downtown Jacksonville. Venues include MOCA, Southlight Gallery, the Florida Teatre and the Main Library. Many venues allow visitors to meet with local artists and listen to live music, and most venues offer free admission and tours during the Art Walk.


Families can take the Skyway over to


Hemming Plaza, where many of the craft vendors are located. Most vendors and booths are located throughout Hemming Plaza, which serves as the headquarters for the Art Walk. At the Art Walk, families can experience all mediums of art, from mixed- media to spray paint and everything in between. Liz says that being exposed to art helps children think outside the box.
