aluation days often provide a convenient opportunity of having a free verbal valuation of antiques and collectables. Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood conduct regular valuation days throughout the region such as those at Harbour House, Kingsbridge. specialists are on hand to provide

verbal advice on selling, buying, restoration and general information in regard to questions on antiques and the antique market. If you have ever wondered ‘How old is it?’, ‘Where was it made?’, ‘What was it made from?’ or even ‘What is it?’ then the chances are one of our Valuers will be able to answer your questions. The combined knowledge and experience of the staff at Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood provides clients with an invaluable resource of first hand experience and service.

Conducting regular weekly sales of 600 plus lots as well as specialist antiquarian book sales, maritime sales, sporting & collectors’ sales and quarterly fine art sales, has enabled us to gather a rich database of up to the minute market prices from and including our live online sales, that have seen world record prices, all available to search on our website. All of this information enables the team of valuers to keep abreast of market trends and the rising and falling demands and prices of antiques and collectables. The oriental market continues to progress forwards with demand high for early 17th and 18th century blue and white and later Famille Verte vases, as well as the demand for good quality jade. The collectors’ market continues to

be propelled by those with a strong sense of nostalgia, such as the recent cast member’s shirt from the 1979 film ‘Alien’ selling for £1,900 and a copy of

the script for ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ selling for £200. The antiques market has always been associated with the traditional items of furniture, silver and pictures and while they continue to be the mainstay of the market, newer younger fields have begun to catch up with buyers looking for even stranger and more unusual oddities to collect. This is perhaps best illustrated by the recent sale of an early 20th century glass and steel mortuary table that eerily attracted a great deal of attention.
